About the team

This is an exciting opportunity to Join Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s - Technical Services – Operational Support department.  

Operational Support is a key area of Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue’s Technical Services department. They hold the responsibility for servicing, maintaining, and repairing a wide variety of firefighting and rescue equipment alongside breathing apparatus and ancillary equipment to enable front line crews to provide an effective operational response.

About the role

This is a fast paced and often reactive environment, dependant on operational incidents, therefore you’ll need to be able to work under pressure, be able to work as part of a team and be extremely well organised, taking a pro-active approach to your workload.

Typically, you will be:

  • Ensuring that HFRS operational equipment is inspected & serviced at the correct intervals and is fit for operational use.
  • Using computerised systems for maintaining records of all equipment inspections, tracking, tracing and managing of assets.
  • Servicing, maintaining and repairing HFRS equipment both at Operational Support Workshop’s and other locations as necessary i.e. fire stations.
  • The movement, transport and carrying of equipment, as required, within the area covered by HFRS.

Full training will be provided on our specialist equipment and systems; however, we are looking for candidates who already have a good understanding of workshop environments and practical repair work. A proactive approach, attention to detail, and a commitment to safe working practices are essential.

About you 

Essential: 

  • Full UK driving licence. 
  • Ability to achieve and maintain the required competency certifications to inspect, service, repair and maintain a range of risk-critical Fire and Rescue Service equipment following appointment.

Desirable: (Training and development opportunities will be provided for candidates who do not currently hold these competencies).

  • Experience in the operation, inspection, servicing or maintenance of Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), Fire and Rescue Service ladders, and combustion powered portable pumps. 
  • LGV (Large Goods Vehicles) driving licence.
