About the team 

This is an exciting opportunity to join the SAP team, at Hertfordshire County Council.

Working as part of the SAP Team and reporting to the SAP Team Lead, this role is responsible for providing technical support and solutions for SAP applications, spanning the Finance, Purchasing, Payroll and Human Resources business areas within Hertfordshire County Council.

Working closely with the team and our stakeholders, the successful applicant will be responsible for ABAP development and configuration, engaging in both bespoke customisations and business-as-usual solutions.

The role will work alongside SAP Development Consultants, the Test & Release Manager and the SAP Helpdesk team.

About the role 

  • Play a key role in supporting and enhancing SAP applications across Finance and HR functions, including Payroll, Personnel Records, Accounts Payable/Receivable and reporting solutions
  • Take ownership of configuration tasks, system administration, testing, documentation and day‑to‑day operational support within a structured change‑controlled environment
  • Work closely with technical colleagues, business users and third‑party suppliers to ensure smooth operations, timely issue resolution and effective collaboration across teams
  • Create and maintain technical and non‑technical documentation, support user acceptance testing and contribute to service improvements and system enhancements

About you

Essential:

  • Demonstrable experience of SAP ECC6 & Netweaver Portal ABAP / Webdynpro developments
  •  Strong Microsoft 365 skills, particularly Excel, Outlook, Word, Teams and Co-Pilot
  • Organised, adaptable and able to thrive under pressure, balancing priorities effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Builds strong relationships with stakeholders, offering trusted advice and demonstrating resilience, commitment and a positive approach to teamwork.
  • A proactive, analytical problem‑solver with excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team

Desirable:

  •  ITIL qualification / understanding of ITIL methodologies
  • Experience of working in a public sector environment.
  • Experience of SAP interfaces, via a third-party tool.
