Our Business Support Service is looking for highly motivated, enthusiastic, and organised individuals who can ensure that a high level of administrative support is provided to our departments.
Our Business Support Service is a centralised unit which has been formed to deliver a co-ordinated, consistent, and high-quality service supporting service delivery across the organisation. Business Support is critical to ensuring our departments can support services to our residents, and if you have great administrative skills and a strong customer focus, you could be part of it.
You’ll be working as part of the central Business Support Service with more than 400 colleagues, and you’ll be supporting our departments to ensure they are able to deliver critical services to the residents of Hertfordshire.
About the role
Our Business Support Service supports a range of departments. If you are particularly interested in an area, please specify in your application. All roles tend to be hybrid, which will mean that you will be expected to work within one of Hertfordshire County Council’s offices on a regular basis as well as working from home. The hiring manager will discuss the details for each particular vacancy.
Children's Services
You will be supporting services across Children's Safeguarding, Specialist, Education, Skills & Inclusion who ensure Hertfordshire families, children & young people have the right support, guidance and advice, some roles may involve exposure to sensitive information & a DBS may be required for roles working in buildings where children or young people may be present.

Admissions & Transport 37 hours - Permanent - Stevenage
The SEN Transport team play a vital role in assisting children with special educational needs with home to school transport. The Business Support role involves working closely with the Team and also working independently to ensure the Team and families are supported. You will be required to respond to parents, liaise with schools/colleges, work with colleagues across teams, have a high level of accuracy, maintain records and be proficient in Microsoft Office programmes. Child Protection/Independent Review - 37 hours - Permanent - Stevenage
This role provides administrative support to the Child Protection and Independent Review Team. You will be supporting Child Protection Conferences, and other associated tasks ensuring that statutory timescales are met. You will be working in a rewarding and fast-paced environment, coordinating the booking and arrangements for Child Protection Conferences, updating LCS, and distributing letters, plans and minutes.

Brokerage & Commissioning Team - 37 hours - Permanent - Stevenage
The Brokerage and Commissioning team provides essential business support that keep operations running smoothly. We handle a wide range of tasks including processing financial requests, managing travel arrangements, coordinating purchases for service users, and setting up new accounts. We work closely with social workers and other professionals to ensure timely delivery of resources, maintain accurate records, and uphold compliance standards. Collaboration, attention to detail, and a commitment to excellent service are at the heart of everything we do.

Adult Care Services
ACS focusses on enabling people to live a full and active life as independently as possible in the community. We have Older People’s and Sensory Services, Adult Disability Services, Safeguarding, DoLs and Learning & Development, along with Integrated Discharge and Transfer of Care Teams, Day Opportunities and Supported Living Services. As a Business Support Officer, you will undertake a variety of administrative duties depending on the service including data entry and analysis, meeting support and minute taking, receiving and making telephone calls. You may be in contact with those that use our services, and a DBS may be required in these settings.
Some of the roles will not be office based but maybe in the Hospital Teams or Supported Living Units.
Public Health
The Business Support team within Hertfordshire County Council's Public Health service plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the department. We provide high quality administrative support, helping to facilitate key public health initiatives and services. Our team works collaboratively to manage essential processes, co-ordinate communications, and assist in the effective delivery of public health priorities across the county
Legal Services
This role provides business and administrative support to the Legal teams (Commercial, Property, AEH, CLU, Dispute Resolution, and Environment). It involves specialist professional support to Fee Earners and Managers, handling confidential and sensitive matters, acting as the first point of contact for calls, and providing information. Duties include minute taking, filing, scanning, photocopying, preparing correspondence, creating court bundles, and producing engrossments and bound contracts. Legal Services work to external professional standards including the Law Society, SRA, and Lexcel, as well as HCC policies. The role requires strict adherence to deadlines and high attention to detail to prevent data breaches.
Resources
You’ll be supporting services across our Resources Directorate, such as our Libraries and our Property Services, undertaking a range of administrative duties including meeting support, creating agendas, note and minute taking, raising purchase orders, managing invoicing and payments processes, maintaining database information and providing information as a first point of contact
Hertfordshire Fire & Rescue
You’ll be supporting the teams in the Hertfordshire Fire Stations. Key duties include inputting overtime and on-call payments to HCC’s payroll system, managing the supply of uniform and PPE on behalf of operational staff, making and receiving telephone calls on behalf of the Fire Service, finance support with station budgets and purchasing, and providing information as a first point of contact. You will be expected to manage team commitments avoiding scheduling conflicts and deal with all general matters including correspondence, invoices, and timesheets according to local procedures.
Growth & Environment
You’ll be supporting services across our Growth & Environment Directorate including our Passenger Transport team undertaking a range of administrative duties including raising purchase orders, managing invoicing and payments processes, maintaining database information and providing information as a first point of contact
About you
Essential:
- Experience in minute or note taking
- Proven experience in an administrative or support role
- Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities with a range of audiences
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software
- Experience in working as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to plan own work over short timescales for routine or familiar tasks and processes and use your initiative to work independently.
- GCSE or Vocational equivalent, strong numeracy, and literacy skills.
- Enthusiasm and pride in your work are qualities we welcome.
Desirable:
- You will be used to working to tight deadlines and with high accuracy in written correspondence.
